The monument standing in Tadeusz Starc Square was unveiled on September 2, 1979, on the 40th anniversary of the invasion of Poland by the Germans. It commemorates, above all, the heroism of the prisoners of Oflag II C Woldenberg, the largest camp for officers. It stood less than a kilometer from Dobiegniew.

There is also a statue of the Woldenberger on the square. He is holding a briefcase with documents in his hand. Behind the squares, the officer has a piece of barbed wire. The statue was made of granite imported from Africa. The figure carved in it was modeled on one of the camp prisoners - Lieutenant Witold Domański. Like the giant sword, the monument symbolizes breaking out of captivity and creating a new Poland.
