The beginnings of these mighty fortifications date back to the 14th century, when Bystrzyca Kłodzka, thanks to its strategic location on the trade route from Bohemia to Silesia, gained importance and needed effective protection. The defense system was built and developed over centuries, adapting to changing siege techniques. When you stand before them, you will feel their monumental strength. Imagine their height – in some places they reached up to 10 meters, and their thickness could intimidate any invader!
The walls were uniform and topped with a walkway for defenders. The whole was reinforced with numerous towers – such as the Kłodzko Tower or the Knights' Tower – which were strategically placed along the entire perimeter, serving as observation and defensive points. Each of the towers had its task, and their combined effort created an almost impenetrable barrier.
