Thiel’s water mill

The mill in Żędowice ceased to be ground in 2000, but the charming building has not been closed and now has didactic and entertainment functions. The Thiels made sure that the mill retains the original, 19th-century architectural layout.

The history of the Żędowice mill in the hands of the Thiel family dates back to 1864, when the then facility was purchased by Ferdynand Thiel.
The family managed to preserve the original architectural layout, although they sometimes faced disasters and dramatic stories. In the 1930s, some buildings were flooded by a great flood. Then, after the war, a fire broke out in the mill. Each time, however, the Thiel family managed to rebuild and restore the splendor of the Żędowice mill.

Grain milling ceased here only in 2000. The owners acknowledged
then the mill's operation was unprofitable and its maintenance too expensive. And though
today it no longer fulfills its original functions, all devices and machines are here
preserved in original condition! In addition, they are in such good condition that sometimes they are arranged
there are grain grinding shows, and the historic part is available to visitors.
Today, an additional attraction is Small Kayak kayaking, but also a rope park and a place for barbecue and bonfire. You can also ride a carriage or
horseback. In addition, the mill has been operating as a small hydropower plant since 2000.

How it working

To listen to the history of monuments as part of the "Discover History" project, you need to follow a few simple steps. Below, we present a short, step-by-step "user manual" to provide a relatively simple way to access the mini-auditions.

STEP 1

You need a smartphone with a camera. The camera lens should be pointed at the information plaque located next to the monument. Below is a view of the plaque itself and its example location next to the Karol Musioł monument in Opole.

STEP 2

After pointing your smartphone's camera at the QR code located on the right side of the plaque, the app's welcome screen will appear, followed by a screen with the name, photo of the monument, and the "START" button.

STEP 3

The "START" button starts the audio recording process.
Your smartphone will prompt you with the next steps after you listen to the story or pause it. Please keep an eye on your smartphone screen!

STEP 4

Other available options: brief information about the monument, author of the text and recording, list of other monuments in the city included in the "Discover History" project, downloadable map of monuments, video, and social media links
